Allocate Time for Training

It is important for new owners to allocate a period of time to house training. Puppies can be a lot of work initially, but the more time you spend with your new puppy in the beginning, the faster he will learn what is expected of him.Just remember that you will get out of it what you put into it.

Ideally, you would begin the training on the very first day your puppy comes home. The reason is because every time your puppy goes potty, he is learning a new habit. If he is going anywhere he happens to be in the house, then he is learning that he should just go wherever. Each time this happens, that lesson is reinforced. However, most people find this site only after experiencing a certain level of frustration around house training puppies. That’s ok, now it’s time to do something!

Crate training puppies tends to be one of the fastest, most effective methods you could use. You will need a crate that allows your puppy only enough room to stand up and turn around in a circle. Too big a crate and there will be room for a toilet area, which defeats the purpose. The basic idea behind crate training is that your puppy will think of the crate as his den, which he will avoid messing up if at all possible. No one wants to sleep in their own filth!

If you are beginning on the day your puppy comes home, you should allocate about a week to train your puppy or dog, and if you are starting the method after the puppy has been in your home for a period of time, you will need to allocate additional time to reestablish a new method and retrain. It might take a long as a month of consistent training to get your puppy trained to go in the right spot. Do not give up, and be consistent. Your puppy will continue to have accidents during this period, but the more infrequent they become, the father along he is progressing. Just remember that house training puppies is not easy! I cannot stress enough how important it is to have a solid gameplan. I have found this great tool that will show you step by step exactly what to do. You can learn more about it here.
