House Training Puppies is a site I designed to help people who are really struggling with getting their puppies potty trained. When I got my first puppy Emma (featured at the top right) I was so in love with her! I was more interested in playing with her, and hardly noticed or cared about a few puddles on the floor here and there. I was just in love with my new puppy! After a few months though, I realized it was time to get her potty trained. I had no idea that by not house training her, I had basically “trained” her that it was OK to go on the floor.

First I got some books. I read them and tried to apply the methods. I bought a crate. I bought puppy training pads. This led to some success, but she was still having accidents every day. Then I bought some DVD videos that I thought might explain whatever key element I had missed. At my wits’ end, I finally ended up hiring a professional dog trainer to come to my house and show me what I was doing wrong. This improved Emma’s success rate somewhat, but it was still a real problem. I was embarrassed to have people over, and my home smelled terrible! I had run out of money that I could afford to spend with the trainer, but still my problem wasn’t fixed! I was cleaning up puddles & piles every day. I had been trying to get my Emma potty trained for over 7 months without success! I spent so much time trying to figure it out, and wasted so much money, I really thought it was hopeless. And then one day I came across this amazing, super easy system for house training puppies. Finally, I had Emma potty trained within the space of a weekend! I could not believe how simple it was. Everything I had learned from all the expensive lessons, books and DVDs failed to teach what I learned in this program, and I couldn’t believe how easy it was! If you are frustrated with house training, and you are tired of trying to get the smell of urine out from your carpet, take a look at this program, it’s guaranteed to work in 7 days or less, and I can assure you it worked for me!

A reader recently told me that she has been struggling with house training puppies for the past four months, and when will her puppy finally get it? This is a common experience. Here’s the thing – some dogs get it right away, some don’t. And here’s the other thing – some humans know how to house train, and some don’t. So there are a lot of factors at play here.

Lots of dogs do get house trained over the course of the weekend, while others take the better part of 6 months. Don’t give up! When it comes to humans, we often have the most trouble with consistency. I’ve said this many times, but consistency is the key. Each time your puppy has an accident, he is learning that it is OK to go on the floor. It’s up to you to control the puppy’s access to areas and key eyes on the puppy at all times he is free to wander.

It is incredibly hard to stay on top of it, as we all have such busy lives. But this is a commitment you made when getting a puppy, and you are the only one who can help your puppy learn the proper potty habits.

If you are feeling like you aren’t making progress, I cannot stress enough that the best way to speed up the process is through the money back guaranteed program that works for people who are short on time and need to get their puppies trained ASAP. Let me know how it works out for you, and keep those questions coming!

This helps develop routine and familiarity for your dog. For example, if the location is in the backyard, always use the same entrance (like the backdoor) and walk the same path. If the location is along the walk route, always get to that spot the same way, especially in the beginning. When walking your dog, having this as part of the built in routine will help him understand what is supposed to happen at what point. Just a little tip, but sometimes it’s the little things that bring it all together. If you have a great tip, drop me an email and I’ll share it with everyone!

When House Training Puppies, crate training is the quickest way to get the job done. It works so well because when crate training puppies, it’s very simple to get a handle on your dog’s eating and toilet schedule, while making it very clear to your puppy where the toilet area is.

Some people have a hard time with the concept of crate training, and your puppy may whine a little bit being kept in the crate, especially if he is used to running free. However, dogs like having a den, and this creates a safe space for your puppy that he knows is his “home”. A puppy is very resistant to messing up his own space, and will hold off on relieving himself until he can get to another location-this is why crate training works.

The crate needs to be large enough so your puppy can comfortably walk around in a circle and then lie down. As he gets older, upgrade to a larger crate if necessary. Crate training puppies works basically because dogs want to avoid lying in their urine so they hold off on using the toilet when in the crate for as long as possible.

Throughout the day, keep track of the times each day your puppy drinks, eats and goes to the bathroom. This way you can put together a schedule for toilet breaks around the times of day your dog might need to go. Typically, toilet times tend to happen first thing in the morning, after playtime, 30 minutes after eating, and before bedtime. For younger puppies a few nighttime time trips may also be needed.

When you take your puppy out of the crate in the morning, take him right to his toilet area. Simply carry him straight there and set him down in the toilet area if he tends to get distracted or run off. You should just stand there for 10-15 or so minutes, simply watching and waiting. If he actually goes to the bathroom, immediately give your puppy lots of verbal praise and affection, and you can also give a treat. If he doesn’t go, then take him back to his crate, and in about 20 minutes or so, try again. Just repeat this pattern until successful, and once your puppy does go, reward the good behavior with playtime. You want to teach your dog that he needs to take care of business first, then he gets playtime. This sets up good habits.

In the initial stages, crate training puppies takes a lot of time and focus. If done right, you should see improvements quickly. Your puppy will need frequent breaks playing throughout the day, but for the most part he should stay in the crate during the early stages of the training process.

You must keep your eyes on your puppy at all times when he is out of the crate. If you see him about to go on the carpet, say no firmly and pick him up and immediately take him to the right area. This can be somewhat awkward, but it is really the only opportunity to help your puppy understand where his toilet area is.

When you are house training puppies, be patient and understanding, because accidents will happen. What you should do is quietly clean up the mess without letting your dog see, so you aren’t drawing any attention to it. Be sure and use a proper cleaning product to remove the urine smell. And remember, your puppy is just a baby and doesn’t know any better, so take the time to teach him what to do, and your patience will be rewarded!

The purpose of the crate is not to punish your puppy, and despite what many pet owners may think, it is not cruel at all. When done correctly, the crate is a safe place for your puppy to relax in when he’s tired, and young puppies need lots of sleep.

The crate is meant to be only large enough for your dog to lay down and stand up and turn in a circle. You do not want any additional space, as that could become the toilet area, which you want to avoid. You want the crate small enough so your dog wants to avoid messing up his bed. Of course that means you need to give frequent opportunities to use the toilet, for small puppies at least every few hours until they learn to control their bladders a bit more. This means you’ll need to get up in the middle of the night if your puppy is very young. And of course you would not leave a puppy in a crate all day while you are at work.

The basic concept behind crate training is that your pup will hold it for as long as possible, and then when you bring him out of the crate, he’ll hopefully need to go potty, and there’s your opportunity to train him where to go. Pretty simple, right? When you are crate training puppies, it can be very effective when done right.

You should always start out with a trip to the toilet, and then when your dog has done his business, reward him with playtime outside. This encourages him to get his business done quickly so he can get to the fun part! If you just take him back inside immediately, you may find your dog is reluctant to get it over with, because he doesn’t want to go back inside. You’ll notice him dawdling and just messing around, as a way of prolonging the outdoor experience. By making sure he gets his business done first, he has a powerful incentive to get it over with, and you can move on to spending some quality time with your pup.

If you are considering puppy training pads as your permanent potty training solution, you will want to carefully consider whether to use washable or disposable puppy training pads. Each has different benefits that you want to consider before making your decision. I personally prefer washable ones, but there are some definite drawbacks to consider. The best thing about disposable puppy training pads is that you can easily dispose of them, and the odor is not really an issue as the pads are not going to be hanging around your house waiting to be washed. There’s no stinky loads of laundry to do, and from an environmental perspective, that wipes out most of the benefit of non disposables. House training puppies can be a messy business, so you want to keep the mess as minimal as possible!

On the other side of the coin, disposable pads can become a favorite toy of teething puppies, and once they begin shredding the pads, it will be difficult to get your puppy to see the pads strictly as a toilet area. The other drawback to disposables is that you will need to keep buying them. Washable puppy training pads require an initial investment to purchase 1-2 dozen, but they will eventually pay for themselves over time.

I prefer the washable puppy training pads myself, but it is really a matter of personal preference, as well as your dog’s preference. When house training puppies, see what works best for you and your puppy. You might find that what worked well for one dog doesn’t work so well for the next dog. If you are still struggling with house training puppies, then it might be time to look into a guaranteed solution. I struggled for months myself until I tried this house training puppies system and then I had incredible results. And the best part was, I was able to get my puppy house trained in just 7 days. If you are tired of cleaning up after your puppy, you should check it out.

For many new puppy owners, they are carefully following along a set of trusted puppy training instructions, but for some reason, their puppy just isn’t “getting it”. I know I was certainly in that group at one time! The thing I kept missing for the early part of my training process was how important (vital, actually) immediate and consistent response is. Learning how to train a puppy like a pro requires that you respond to your puppy’s behaviors with an immediate response. With good behaviors such as using the toilet in the right spot, the response is praise and attention, and maybe a treat. But the key to helping your puppy associate all these good rewards with his behavior is that the response must happen at the same moment that the good behavior happened. The second she comes up from the pee squat, or walks away from a number two, you must praise and give a treat immediately. Even running to the kitchen to get a treat creates a delay and by the time you get back with treat, your puppy is excited for a treat, but unable to associate that treat with the act of peeing on the pee pad, or whatever. The moment has passed.

House training puppies requires you to be prepared at all times for an opportunity to reward good behaviors or correct bad behaviors. For example, having treats stored nearby to the proper toilet area, or even in your pocket if possible will allow you to reward good behaviors immediately. Puppies do not learn in the same way humans do, they do not “know” peeing on the floor is wrong, but if they have been corrected immediately after peeing on the floor, they might begin to associate peeing on the floor with displeasing you. At the same time, if offered strong praise and affection after peeing on the pee pad, they will begin to associate peeing on the pee pad with receiving lots of treats and praise from you.

If you are at that point of frustration, and want to learn more about house training puppies, I strongly recommend checking out this incredible system for house training puppies in seven days or less. It’s so easy to follow, and I can personally tell you it worked for me. The best part is that there is a money back guarantee. Try it now risk free.

One of the key factors to success is praising your puppy when he does the right thing. This teaches him exactly what you want him to do, and he will work to earn your praise. When you first begin the process of house training puppies, select a phrase to use each time you take your pup to the toilet. Something along the lines of “do your business” will work well. Personally, I use “go potty!” but that’s because I have 2 adorable little Maltese girls. You need to watch for action and wait patiently. As soon as they have done the deed (and I mean THE MOMENT they are done) you should go wild with praise, applause, excitement. The puppy needs to be shown that you are over the moon about this behavior, as he wants to please you. The more excited you are, the more he will see he just did something really good, and now’s there’s a reward coming his way. The reward can be in the form of enthusiastic praise, affection and/or an especially tasty treat like a piece of cooked chicken or dried liver treats. Start with your praise, and then quickly follow up with the treat or affection, as they will lose the connection after a minute or so.

House training puppies can be a challenging process, and offering praise and rewards for good behavior will certainly speed up the process. Most dogs will start to get the hang of it pretty quickly and you may not need to resort to little bits of cooked chicken in your pockets, but if you have been making the effort at house training dogs for some time already, then go ahead and see if a delicious treat will be that extra bit of motivation your pup needs. My Maltese pups love the dried liver treats, such as these ones from Amazon.

If you are in the process of learning how to train a puppy, you will find that the treats method can be very effective. Some people also use a clicker system for rewards, and if you are using a clicker to train your puppy, you can also use the clicker during potty training, as a way to let your puppy know a treat is coming. Here is a great clicker training system you can use for both house training and obediance training.

To get on the fast track system to potty train your puppy or dog FAST, check out the 7 day fast track system.

Besides developing a schedule of eating and potty times for your puppy, consistency is very important. Whatever place you have chosen for the potty spot, that is the exact spot you should take your puppy to each and every time he might need to go. Initially, you might carry your puppy directly to that spot, so there is no opportunity to wander off or get distracted along the way.

When you have brought your puppy to the spot where you want him to go, you should use a phrase to reinforce what you want him to do, such as “go potty!” or “do your business!” or even ” hurry up!” You should be consistent in using that phrase each time you take your puppy out, and the puppy will begin associating that phrase as a command. You should say this phrase not only at the beginning, but while your dog is eliminating, so he understands what you mean. Immediately afterwards, praise!

Your puppy will learn by habit, and so if you are consistent in taking him to the proper location in the morning, after meals and before bed (more frequently for new puppies with little bladders) then you are giving him multiple opportunities throughout the day to learn the right place to go. If you do not keep to a schedule and be consistent, you will struggle for months to get your puppy house trained. It is as simple as that.

There is no quick fix, and you should expect to take at least a couple of days of fully focusing on your puppy’s potty routine. If your pup has been going on the floor for many months, it may take a bit longer to “undo” the bad habits he has learned. Do not be discouraged, take action now! Once you get started, the more consistent you are, the faster the process will be. Each time your pup goes to the toilet is a new opportunity to train him properly. So each day, you are presented with multiple opportunities. Once you have a few successes under your belt, your puppy will begin to understand how happy it make you when he goes to the toilet in this particular area.

Or maybe he has learned that he earns delicious treats only after this behavior, and that motivates him to go in the right location. I have found dried liver treats and cooked chicken bits work especially well for my dogs. Each dog is different and will have his own motivations, but the point is, after a few days of consistently going in the right spot, and receiving consistent rewards by means of praise, affection and possibly treats, your pup will begin to associate this as the correct course of action, and will become a habit.

Crate training puppies is a proven method for quick success. Which is exactly what you want. If you are having trouble implementing the process and want to learn some proven techniques for house training dogs in as little of time as possible, you can learn more here.
